I don’t know why many Christians are extremely negative about the future. I do not deny the sad events that have happened in the last decades; however, I believe that in this life the true church has a taste of the heavenly joy —a joy that will be completed in heaven. God graciously has given his children a glimpse of eternal joy now, yet the perfect joy God has promised in the Scriptures is still to come.
Christian hope is set on the glorious day when the number of people who have been called to the church is completed, and by the end of the times, Christ will return in glory and visible to everyone. With the Second Coming of Christ, the resurrection of the body will take place (Isa. 25:6-9) and Christ will judge every living being. In the Universal Judgment then all people, believers and non-believers, will stand before Christ as Judge and all our deeds will be judged (Cf. Art. 37 of the Belgic Confession and Q&A 52 of the Heidelberg Catechism) And the evil will also be judged for condemnation (2 The. 1:6) but the children of God will be honored (1 The. 4:13) That is, the evil will be immortal to be tormented in the everlasting fire, but the good will be immortal to be crowned with glory and honor.
After all this, God will eradicate all sin and recreate the heavens and the earth for eternity (2 Pet. 3:10). Indeed, all these things make the future looks great. It gives me the joy to know that this broken world will be redeemed soon.
